The Browser Window

The Browser window is very important in Wordz. Firstly it is your means of browsing the content of your loaded data file. Secondly it is a tool used in building Sentences - You can drag Word Banks, Sentences, Text items, Punctuation items and Control items onto a Sentence window, from the list area on the Browser window.

The Bowser window can be opened with the menu command

View > Browser

or by pressing F4

Browsing Word Banks

This button brings up a list of the Word Banks in your data file. The word banks are represented by the smaller icons in the list. You can double click on these icons to open a word bank in a word bank window. The description column displays an editable description field. Click on it to edit the text directlly. Description also has a function in sentence generation which you can read about here. The Items column lists the number of items in each Word Bank.

Clicking on the name of a word bank allows you to edit the name - Be careful when you re-name word banks though, or sentences which use those word banks may not work correctly.

Browsing Sentences

This button shows the list of Sentences in the current data file. Sentences are branching scripts that dictate which word banks contribute to the text being generated and in what order.

Sentences are represented by the smaller icons in the list. You can double click on these icons to open a Sentence in a Sentence window. The description column displays an editable description field. Click on it to edit the text directly. Description also has a function in sentence generation which you can read about here. The Items column lists the number of items in each sentence.

The narrower icons represent Sub-sentences, which to not get randomly chosen when Wordz is running unless they are called from inside another Sentence.

Clicking on the name of a Sentence allows you to edit the name - Be careful when you re-name a Sentence though, or Sentences which call that Sentence may not work correctly.

Browsing Text Items

This button brings up a list of commonly-used words which can be dragged and dropped onto a Sentence window. The Text Items are not editable in the list but can be edited once they are placed in a Sentence.

Browsing Punctuation Items

This button brings up a list of Punctuation items which can be dragged and dropped onto a Sentence window. They are actually just Text Items with punctuation already in them.

The Punctuation Items are not editable.

Browsing Control Items

This button brings up a list of Control items which can be dragged and dropped onto a Sentence window. Control tags make a sentence perform some sort of operation on the text while it is being generated.

The Control Items are not editable.
