Control Items

Control items are used in sentences to perform various functions. Only one of them requires modification when it is inserted, the rest can simply be dragged and connected into your sentence like everything else. Here's what they do:

<A/AN>
This item is replaced in the Sentence output by either 'a' or 'an' depending on the first letter or the word following it. For instance - a bicycle, or an egg.

<GLOBALn>
These items are used to insert constant words to all sentences they appear in. If Wordz was programmed to tell a story, the global items could be used for the character's names. To modify the value of a global item, right-click in the column next to the item and type in the new value. Whenever this item is called, that value will be inserted into the sentence.

<LF>
Forces Wordz to start a new line of text when outputting.

<NOSPACE>
Forces Wordz not to put a space between the items before and after the item.

<TAKEFROMn>
Takefrom allows repetition of a word in a sentence. The number n refers to another item in a sentence (which must occur before the takefrom item). Takefrom repeats the word that was selected for the source item. This is the only tag which requires modification - to do this, double-click the item to bring it into the Sentence Item Editor, then type the number of the sentence item you want to take the word from just before the > on the end, then press Apply.

<IS/ARE>
This item is replaced by IS or ARE depending on whether the previous word ends with an S or not. For instance - The snail is, the maggots are

<PLURALISE>
Appends a plural suffix to the word before the item, so succubus becomes succubi, myth becomes myths, loaf becomes loaves, fisherman becomes fishermen etc.

<NEWPAGE>
This item forces Wordz to start a new page of output.
